Insurance
Consulting multiple experts helps avoid losses.
When I was first diagnosed with cancer, the first concern that came to mind was whether I would have enough money. However, when I asked my insurance agent, the response I received was very vague. Fortunately, I asked in a Line group, and I was lucky to have a friend in the group who works in insurance promptly answer my questions. I suggest that when encountering insurance issues, it's best to ask different friends to avoid neglecting your rights and benefits!
Inpatient Treatment vs. Outpatient Treatment
Can Immunotherapy be Reimbursed?
Immunotherapy is a relatively new form of treatment, and older insurance policies may not explicitly include coverage for it. However, with each unit of immunotherapy costing over 60,000, and individuals often undergoing multiple units, the monthly expenses can reach 130,000, making it financially challenging for most people. Therefore, if you are considering trying immunotherapy, you can discuss with your doctor the option of inpatient treatment. This way, you can use the reimbursement from inpatient treatment to cover the costs of immunotherapy. If the doctor is unwilling, and your insurance policy covers outpatient treatment, you can also apply for reimbursement, providing some additional financial assistance.
How is the Discharge Recovery Benefit Calculated?
The Discharge Recovery Benefit is calculated based on the number of days spent in the hospital. In other words, the number of days of the Discharge Recovery Benefit corresponds to the number of days hospitalized. For example, if your cancer insurance policy offers 7,500 per day for hospitalization and 2,500 per day for the Discharge Recovery Benefit, you would receive 10,000 for each day spent in the hospital. If you stay for 5 days, you would receive a total of 50,000. If you have additional insurance policies with daily hospitalization benefits, you can add those amounts to the total.
How to Write a Medical Certificate for Diagnosis
After being diagnosed with cancer, one often faces numerous treatments. If requesting a medical certificate for each treatment seems burdensome for the doctor, you can compile a list of all your treatments over a period of three months or six months. Then, request the doctor to include all the details in one certificate.
pay-as-you-go
It is advisable for everyone to opt for insurance plans that offer actual payment and reimbursement because many medications require out-of-pocket expenses. For instance, a single dose of cancer drug “Avastin” can cost at least forty thousand, and it needs to be administered monthly, making the financial burden quite significant.
In Taiwan, actual payment and reimbursement insurance typically covers general hospitalization expenses, intensive care unit (ICU) charges, and inpatient surgical fees. Under specific policy terms, this type of insurance may also partially cover outpatient surgical fees and miscellaneous expenses. While actual payment and reimbursement insurance in Taiwan might provide partial coverage for the costs of targeted drugs, it does not guarantee payment for all out-of-pocket expenses related to these drugs.
